The Rise of Solar Energy

By

November 11, 2014

People across the globe can see a promising impetus for renewable energy this year. Even energy enthusiasts and critics of the future generation may look back to 2015 as the year when the rise of renewable energy revolution has begun.

According to energy historians, it takes decades for the world to change its energy system from one to another. This transition may be slow, but it is normally expected in the field of energy. For instance, the change from using wood for fuel into coal and further into oil took many decades before the world’s current source of fuel came to be.

With the jumpstart of solar revolution this year, let’s take a look at some of the factors that positively affect the ascendency of solar technologies from this year forward and hopefully, beyond.

Climate Change

Worsening weather, floods, droughts and severe calamities are some of the evidences that climate change is a serious matter that the world should take into consideration. Each sector in the community contributes carbon emissions and other greenhouse gases that are not good for the environment. At first, even until now, there are still establishments and individuals that neglect their harmful contribution to the fast changing climate. Moreover, the movement has begun. And people are taking climate change seriously. Corporations from different parts of the world show their commitment towards better environment with their carbon reduction plans. Individuals are also starting to become conscious about their waste handling and disposal.

Although there are still many obstacles that may hinder humanity from taking positive actions with regards to climate change, the innovation of solar technologies are some of the results of such decision to shift from non-renewable energy source to renewable ones.

Dropping Price of Renewables

Price plays a crucial role why countries choose a particular source of energy. Fossil fuels and coals are relatively cheaper in price, hence, causing people to continue using them despite their harmful effect to the environment.

Generally, solar technologies require high upfront payment, thus, making it a less attractive option. Moreover, solar power and other renewable energy prices have dramatically dropped over time. With this, the cost is no longer a reason for people not to shift to solar energy. Not only is it good for the environment, but also a cheaper alternative even in the long run.

The Future of Solar Energy

Indeed, the future of solar energy is hopeful. And the future starts now. We are seeing for ourselves the transition from non-renewable energy to renewable ones. Certainly, there would be barriers that could turn down expectations in solar energy economically, politically and environmentally. But so long as people see the importance of pursuing green technology amidst the ever-changing environment, renewable energy will find its value in the modern world.

The change would surely not come in an overnight. But the progress, no matter how slow, is still another step closer to its desired outcome. A new world is coming. Perhaps, not soon enough.
